Better at Home Services

The Renfrew-Collingwood Better at Home program helps seniors (55+) continue living independently in their own homes and stay connected to their community by providing simple, non-medical home support services such as light housekeeping, grocery delivery, frozen meal delivery, low-cost group shuttle trips, and a walking club.

Seniors and elders are an important and growing part of our communities, and their active involvement enriches everyone’s lives. Funded by the Government of British Columbia and managed by the United Way, Better at Home helps ensure older adults continue to play an active part in our communities, surrounded by friends, families, and neighbours.

Available services

Grocery Delivery

Our grocery shopping program provides a supported shopping service to older adults in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. Participants are called weekly by volunteers to place a grocery order through our partner, Save-On Foods. Once the order is taken, a driver will deliver it right to your door! It is our hope that through this program, older adults are able to live independently at home while receiving grocery deliveries to their door.

To be eligible for the program, you must be 55+ and live in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. Minimum of $40 for each order, which can be paid with cash, cheque or credit card.

For questions or to sign up, please call 604-435-0375 or email LEbert@cnh.bc.ca.

Housekeeping

Under the Better at Home Program, CNH provides light housekeeping services to older adults in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. Each home is assigned one regular housekeeper, who builds a long-term relationship with the client. The service includes general cleaning, laundry, making beds, and removing garbage. Medical, personal, pet, and plant care are not included. Our housekeepers do not declutter, perform deep cleaning, or provide companionship or grocery shopping services.

Renfrew-Collingwood Better at Home charges $25 per hour for a minimum two-hour visit, or $50 per visit. If you qualify for a subsidy, your costs would be lower. We are currently accepting referrals for our waitlists. To be eligible for the subsidy waitlist, you must be 55 or older, live in the Renfrew-Collingwood catchment, and provide a copy of your most recent tax assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency.

Seniors’ Shuttle

Want to come on a fun trip? Our seniors shuttle bus goes to a different local attraction every second Friday of the month, from 9 am to 2 pm. Participants must be 55+ and live in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood.

If you are looking for a fun adventure, please join us. The trips change every month and NEW participants receive priority. Fees are based on a sliding scale and range from free to $10. To register, call 604.435-0375 or email MCervantes@cnh.bc.ca.

Walking Club

Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:30 am at CNH Main House

The Better at Home Walking Club provides an opportunity for seniors to come together to exercise, socialize, and meet new people. The group meets in the lobby of CNH main house to walk locally in the neighbourhood on Mondays or make special trips to explore other areas further away on Wednesdays. This is a FREE program.
