Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.
Renfrew Collingwood Food Justice (RCFJ) is a Community Development program at Collingwood Neighbourhood House. RCFJ promotes equitable access, intercultural learning and community leadership around sustainable growing, local food, food security, diverse food traditions, and healthy eating in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. We believe that food is a human right, and that the “right to food” means much more than meeting basic nutritional requirements. We help bring neighbours together to find solutions to issues like hunger, isolation, and racism in our community.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Foodlands Coordinator is a unionized program coordination position that supports urban agriculture, food justice, and Indigenous food sovereignty initiatives at Collingwood Neighbourhood House. The Coordinator is responsible for stewarding and maintaining community growing spaces, including Norquay Community Food Forest, CNH Rooftop Garden, Indigenous Space for Connection, coordinating volunteers, facilitating workshops and events, and supporting community-led gardening initiatives. Working collaboratively with community members, partners, and staff, the Coordinator promotes inclusive participation, strengthens community connections, and supports the planning, delivery, evaluation, and sustainability of Foodlands programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Delivery
- Steward the plants, lands, and buildings at the Norquay Community Food Forest, CNH Rooftop Garden, and Indigenous Space for Connection
- Build strong networks of volunteers to support the implementation and maintenance of the Foodlands programs
- Plan, promote, and deliver urban agriculture initiatives, including workshops, land stewardship, and gardening.
- Encourage and empower program participants and volunteers to share their unique knowledge sets
- Coordinate and support the community-led Cheyenne Community Garden and Collingwood Community Garden.
- Build elements of Indigenous Food Sovereignty and Justice into all programming
- Support other RCFJ initiatives as necessary
Communications
- Assist in maintaining Food Justice partnerships
- Collaborate with different teams in CNH in order to support and strengthen programs across the organization.
- Create Food Justice social media content related to food justice, indigenous food sovereignty, and urban growing
- Prepare RCFJ program reviews and promotion materials for the bi-monthly e-newsletters
Administrative & Internal Tasks
- Attend weekly RCFJ team meetings and monthly Community Development department meetings
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of volunteer and participant attendance, program activities, and equipment inventory
- Collect, document, and organize program statistics, participant stories, photos, and other evaluation data to measure and communicate program impact
- Support the Food Hub Manager in researching, preparing, and submitting grant applications, and lead the development and administration of smaller grant opportunities
- Assist the Food Hub Manager in other Food Justice related tasks and programming during gardening off-season
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree education minimum 4 years in Food Systems, Urban Planning or a related field
- Over 12 up to 18 months of experience in urban agriculture, food justice, environmental stewardship, or related fields.
- Demonstrated understanding of community development principles, including anti-oppression, intersectionality, equity, and asset-based community development
- Experience working with and managing diverse volunteers across age groups and cultural backgrounds
- Skilled in fostering an intercultural, intergenerational community through anti-racist and equity principles
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, leadership, networking, and communication skills
- Familiarity with urban agriculture, food justice, and Indigenous food sovereignty
- Independent, self-motivated and self-directed; ability to set strong personal boundaries
- Comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Search
- Food Safe Certification and First Aid Certification are required
ASSETS
- Familiarity with marketing tools such as MailChimp, Canva, and social media
- Oral and written proficiency in additional language(s)
- Valid B.C. driver’s license and possess own vehicle
JOB DETAILS
- Salary: $25.52/hr
- Schedule: 14 hours/week. The schedule is flexible and may include some evenings and weekends.

- Start Date: October 1, 2026
- End Date: March 31, 2027, with possibility for extension
This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
