What We Do

Volunteers are a key part of CNH’s success. Every year, hundreds of volunteers help support CNH in a variety of ways. They help out in the office, in the kitchen, on the rooftop garden, and in many of CNH’s programs and initiatives. Volunteering is a great way to get valuable experience and a wonderful way to contribute to making your community a better place!

Requirements

As per the CNH Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, all volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they start their volunteering experience at CNH. Volunteer positions are open to Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents and others with valid work permits. We welcome people from all backgrounds and ages, but please note some requirements:

Work permit holders, visitors and international students need to send additional information to our office – connect with us!
Volunteers must review and agree with the CNH volunteer guidelines. All volunteers review these guidelines with their Program Manager /Supervisor on their first day of volunteering/orientation and volunteers will be required to sign the document if they agree to comply with the guidelines.
- These guidelines are based on CNH’s mission and values. We encourage those interested in volunteering at CNH to read the guidelines before registering to volunteer.
All volunteers are required to submit a valid BC criminal records clearance (CRC) before they start volunteering with CNH (mandatory for volunteers 12+ years old).

Processing

Processing of volunteer registrations may take up to 5 weeks. You will receive an email from our volunteer program with instructions on how to apply online for a free Criminal Records Check (CRC)* with the BC Ministry of Public Safety, focused on vulnerable sectors.

Once we receive your CRC results, we’ll contact you to connect you with our Program Managers/Supervisors to start your volunteering experience.

IMPORTANT: If you have not received info within a week, please connect with volunteering@cnh.bc.ca. Please check your spam/junk folders in case the emails are there instead of your inbox.

*All volunteer CRC applications with the BC Ministry of Public Safety are free. Currently only online applications are accepted. CRC results are sent directly to us within 2 to 5 weeks. If you have current CRC results from a police detachment or RCMP, completed with a vulnerable sector search, you may submit a copy to us. CRC results are valid for 5 years from date of issue.

Social Prescribing One-on-One at-home Senior Social Volunteer (#CS2026-1)

Volunteer Assistant Project Manager for CNH 40th Anniversary Fundraiser (#AD2026-2)

Gain meaningful leadership experience in a neighbourhood house for a high-profile community event.

Bread Sorting & Bagging Volunteer – Tuesdays and Fridays (#CD2026-2)

Open until filled Every Tuesday and Friday, we receive donated bread from COBS Bread. Volunteers help sort and bag the bread so it can be distributed to community members during the Food Drop program on Thursdays, supporting local food access and reducing food waste.

Food Delivery Pick Up Helper – Fridays (#CD2026-1)

Open until filled. Collingwood Neighbourhood House partners with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank to distribute essential food items—such as fresh produce, pasta, milk, and rice—to programs supporting community members facing food insecurity. We need dedicated volunteers to help unload and organize these supplies every Friday from 12pm to 1pm (except the last Friday of the month).

Grocery Driver Helper – Wednesdays (#CS2025-5)

Every Wednesday you will pick up pre-packaged grocery orders at the Grandview Save on Foods and deliver the orders to seniors in the Renfrew-Collingwood Neighbourhood.
