Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood (RC) neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.
The goal of the Renfrew-Collingwood Better at Home Program is to support seniors in Renfrew-Collingwood to live independently in their homes and stay connected to their communities by providing non-medical support services.
JOB OVERVIEW
The light housekeeping and companionship program provides affordable, regularly scheduled cleaning services to seniors in the Renfrew-Collingwood community, as well as friendly visits with each appointment; this increases connection for socially isolated clients and offsets the adverse effects of loneliness. We are looking for a casual, on-call housekeeper/friendly visitor to help fill the growing demand for light housekeeping and social connections.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Patience and care for seniors’ needs.
- Experience with general housecleaning.
- Ability to use digital devices to update calendar and fill out timesheets.
- Speaks English fluently (Cantonese, Mandarin or other additional languages would be an asset).
- Excellent time management skills.
- Proper work documents if the housekeeper is not a permanent resident or citizen such as an open work permit.
- Valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle would be an asset.
- A successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC), but note that previous conviction(s) not related to this position will not exclude applicants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Housekeeper expectations include:
- Communication:
- Communicate with seniors, their family members, and the Housekeeping Program Manager in a respectful manner at all times.
- Communicate with senior and/or family members to schedule service appointments for a mutually agreed time and dates.
- Continually update their digital calendar to document appointments (ability to use digital devices is required).
- Communicate any changes to the client’s well-being or living situation to the Housekeeping Program Manager in a timely manner.
- Contact the Housekeeping Program Manager as soon as possible for any issues, disagreements, or problems.
- Health and wellbeing: The housekeeper will adhere to CNH health and safety policies, including ergonomic best practices and the CNH Communicable Disease Prevention Plan, which is based on provincial recommendations.
- Social Visiting:
- Enjoy getting to know your clients by spending time with them over a cup of coffee and sharing a treat.
- A friendly face and caring ear can do wonders for fostering a sense of connection among those facing social isolation due to limited mobility or a host of other factors.
- Housekeeping:
- The Light Housekeeping Service is strictly a non-medical home support service (no assistance with personal care task such as help with washing hair, dressing, etc.)
- The specific tasks may vary from home to home.
JOB DETAILS
- Compensation:
- Salary:$21.65 per hour with progression.
- Statutory holiday and vacation pay.
- Schedule: Casual, on call
- Location: Must have reliable transportation to client’s homes (public transportation is acceptable).
- Expected start date: August 18, 2025
This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936.
