    Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood (RC) neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.

    Renfrew-Collingwood Food Justice (RCFJ) is a team of the Community Development Department at CNH. RCFJ promotes equitable access, intercultural learning and community leadership around sustainable growing, local food, food security, diverse food traditions, and healthy eating in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. We believe that food is a human right, and that the “right to food” means much more than meeting basic nutritional requirements. We help bring neighbours together to find solutions to issues like hunger, isolation, and racism in our community.

    Job Overview

    The Food Hub Support Staff supports community-based food systems with a focus on urban growing, Indigenous food sovereignty, and supporting community members experiencing food insecurity. This role combines hands‑on food access work with community education, creative communication, and relationship building.

    The Support Staff contributes to the delivery and coordination of multiple Food Hub programs and is expected to bring practical skills in gardening, graphic design, and/or workshop and program facilitation. Depending on the individual’s strengths, this may include supporting urban growing activities, creating visual materials for programs and workshops, and helping plan and run community-based learning opportunities related to food, cooking, and growing. This is a dynamic, community-facing role that blends outdoor and indoor work and values initiative, creativity, and a willingness to learn. We have multiple positions available.

    Responsibilities

    Program Delivery

    • Support the team in delivering key programs, including the Community Fridge and Pantry, weekly food distribution program, the CCHB program, Community Kitchen Cooking Demo and Cookbook, Greater Vancouver Food Bank food orders, Weekly Garden Work Party/Drop-in, and program/project related system change initiatives
    • Build strong networks of volunteers to support the implementation and maintenance of the programs
    • Encourage and empower program participants and volunteers to share their unique knowledge sets
    • Ensure all programs are accessible and welcoming to all community members with diverse backgrounds and all ages

    Communications

    • Outreach to community members who are facing food insecurity
    • Collaborate with different teams in CNH to support cross program referrals and generally strengthen the programs
    • Support the creation of Food Justice social media content related to food justice, Indigenous food sovereignty, and urban growing.
    • Prepare RCFJ programs reviews and promotion materials for the bi-monthly e-newsletters
    • Collect and document community‑shared recipes for the Community Cookbook project
    • Support evaluation efforts by conducting participant surveys during workshops and programs

    Administrative & Internal Tasks

    • Attend weekly RCFJ team meetings and monthly Community Development department meetings
    • Keep up-to-date records on attendance of volunteers, participants, and programs delivered
    • Support the structure, organization, and visual design of the Community Cookbook project
    • Perform other tasks as assigned

    Eligibility Criteria by the Funder

    • Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
    • Applicant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment international students are not eligible participants
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • Cleared Criminal Record Search

    Qualifications[SM1] 

    • Interest in food justice, Indigenous food sovereignty, Foodlands, and urban growing
    • Basic knowledge of community development values, systems thinking, anti-oppression and equity
    • Demonstrate interest, involvement, and knowledge of Renfrew-Collingwood community resources
    • Minimum of 6-month experience working with vulnerable populations, including seniors and newcomers
    • Strong English communication skills, both written and oral
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a proactive attitude
    • Capability to lift up to 30 pounds
    • Gardening knowledge and practical urban growing skills
    • Excellent graphic design skills
    • Experience planning, coordinating, or facilitating workshops or community programs
    • Familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and social media platforms
    • Food Safe Certificate Level 1

    Assets

    • Class 4 or 5 driver’s license
    • Oral and written proficiency in additional language(s)

    Job Details

    • Salary: $18.15/hr
    • Schedule: 30 hours/week. The schedule is Tuesdays to Fridays, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and may include some Wednesday evenings and weekends.

    Job Overview

    The Afterschool Program Leader will collaboratively plan and lead after-school programs for intermediate elementary school students.  Programming could include sport, fitness and physical activities, social and emotional learning, educational support, group games, mental health and self-care development and social awareness activities. Programs will run afterschool on weekdays from 3-5pm. Please note that their will be multiple positions and availability on all weekdays is not required.  The program leader will be part of the Youth Services (YS) department.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Plan, lead and facilitate in-person afterschool activities that meet the program objectives and goals as identified with program supervisor
    • Maintain and support a safe and positive environment for participants
    • Create promotional material and collaborate with YS team to promote program activities as needed
    • Attend team meetings and take part in professional development opportunities when required
    • Connect and outreach to participants and families as needed to provide updates
    • Track and record program attendance and summaries on a weekly basis
    • Research and develop activities to support program objectives and meet the needs of participants
    • Lead and support volunteer program leaders
    • Support with research and needs analysis of youth in the community

    Skills & Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience and ability working with children and youth and leading programs
    • Certificates and workshops directly related to programming for children and youth
    • Post-secondary education in related field or complimentary field is an asset
    • Understanding and experience with topics of mental and physical health, social justice and anti-oppressive principles
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership and communication skills
    • Experience in supervising and managing volunteers
    • Strong understanding and awareness of children and youth issues and needs
    • Adaptability and Flexibility
    • Standard First Aid Certification (or willingness to get one)

    • Training in High Five or other children and youth program delivery models

    Job Details

    Salary : $22.57/ hour

    Schedule : Work hours range from 4–8 hours per week, depending on scheduling needs. Availability is required on weekdays between 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM.

    The goal of the Renfrew-Collingwood Better at Home Program is to support seniors in Renfrew-Collingwood to live independently in their homes and stay connected to their communities by providing non-medical support services.

    JOB OVERVIEW
    The light housekeeping and companionship program provides affordable, regularly scheduled cleaning services to seniors in the Renfrew-Collingwood community and offers a friendly visit with each appointment to socially isolated clients to increase connection and offset the adverse effects of loneliness. We are looking for two part-time, permanent housekeeper/friendly visitors to help fill the growing demand for light housekeeping and social connections.

    SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
    • Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
    • Patience and care for seniors’ needs
    • Experience with general housecleaning
    • Ability to use digital devices to update calendar and fill out timesheets
    • Speaks English fluently (Cantonese, Mandarin or other additional languages would be an asset)
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Proper work documents if the housekeeper is not a permanent resident or citizen such as an open work permit
    • Valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle would be an asset
    • A successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC), but note that a previous conviction(s) not related to this position will not exclude applicants
    • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Housekeeper expectations include:

    1. Communication:
      a. Communicate with seniors, their family members, and the Housekeeping Program Manager in a respectful manner at all times
      b. Communicate with seniors and/or family members to schedule service appointments for a mutually agreed time and dates
      c. Continually update their digital calendar to document appointments (ability to use digital devices is required)
      d. Communicate any changes to the client’s well-being or living situation to the Housekeeping Program Manager in a timely manner
      e. Contact the Housekeeping Program Manager as soon as possible for any issues, disagreements, or problems
    2. Health and wellbeing:
      a. The housekeeper will conduct a self-screening for Covid-19 or any other illness such as cold or flu prior to entering a client’s home
      b. The housekeeper will wear a mask when in the client’s home when appropriate and practice diligent hand hygiene
      c. The housekeeper will follow emergent CNH policies as they relate to Covid-19 which are based on provincial recommendations
      d. The housekeeper will adhere to CNH’s health and safety policies including ergonomic best practices
    3. Social Visiting:
      a. Enjoy getting to know your clients by spending time with them over a cup of coffee and sharing a treat
      b. A friendly face and caring ear can do wonders for fostering a sense of connection among those facing social isolation due to limited mobility or a host of other factors
    4. Housekeeping:
      a. The Light Housekeeping Service is strictly a non-medical home support service (no assistance with personal care tasks, i.e., help with washing hair, dressing, etc.)
      b. The specific tasks may vary from home to home

    JOB DETAILS
    • Compensation:
    o Salary: $22.30 per hour with progression
    o Statutory holiday and vacation pay
    • Schedule: 4 hours per week
    • Location: Must have reliable transportation to client’s homes (public transportation is acceptable)
