Collingwood Days: Make Your Move
Make Your Move is a weekly free program designed to create an open and sMake Your Move is an ongoing program designed to create an open and supportive space for dancers of all levels to explore movement. The space is flexible—participants are welcome to dance, train, or simply move in ways that feel good to them. Each session may include optional creative prompts or guided movement exercises, depending on the energy and interests of the group or the facilitator.
For this special edition of Make Your Move, Guest facilitators Luciana and Ysadora invite you to an energetic and uplifting dance workshop inspired by Brazilian street carnival dances. Drawing from their current choreographic research, the workshop explores the experience of Brazilian street Carnaval—a vibrant mix of joy, celebration, physical endurance, and the collective energy of the crowd. Their research also reflects on themes of longing, cultural memory, and the feeling of missing out.
What to expect: high-energy movement, sweat, elevated heart rates, and footwork sequences influenced by the rhythms of Frevo, Funk Carioca, and Brega Funk. Be ready to move your hips, connect with others through group exercises, and engage in moments of proximity and physical touch informed by contact improvisation practices.
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, supportive shoes suitable for jumping and impact, and bring a water bottle.
This workshop is a one-time guest-led edition of the ongoing Make Your Move series.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Young Lungs Dance Exchange Artist Residency (Winnipeg), where this research has been developed.
