Program Description
The Personal Grocery Shopping Program closely pairs up one volunteer with a senior, who takes care of the ordering and can shop at different grocery stores with a flexible schedule. We accommodate payment options such as personal credit card, cash, and cheque!
- Day(s) and Time: Flexible, consistent schedule, ~2 hours/week. Commitment of 6
months minimum. - Location: Grocery store of your choice and seniors’ homes in the catchment area.
Duties
- Contact assigned senior(s), take their grocery order, shop for their groceries, deliver
groceries to seniors’ homes, and collect payment. - Conduct informal wellness checks.
- Email the coordinator status updates, images of receipts, and summaries of payments.
- Mileage will be reimbursed at $0.70/km.
- We can also provide a MODO carshare account, if you do not have access to a car.
Requirements
- Interest in helping others and engaging with older adults.
- Detailed and communicative.
- Access to Wi-Fi, computer, and phone.
- Capable of lifting ~20 lbs.
- Class 7 Driver’s License minimum.
- Additional language competencies beyond English are an asset.
