Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood (RC) neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Homelessness Program Assistantwill work closely with the Morning Star Program Manager to ensure smooth operation of the Morning Star Breakfast and shower program. The successful candidate will provide support to people who are experiencing homelessness, are precariously housed or at risk of homelessness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and assist the Saturday Morning Breakfast and Shower program that takes place on Saturday mornings from 7-10 am
  • Set up shower program including setting up tables, organizing donations, helping purchase supplies, and clean up
  • Help set up the breakfast room with tables and chairs, coffee and food station and clean up
  • Prepare hand outs on housing and low cost/free community resources to distribute
  • Refer clients to outreach staff and other resources as appropriate

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Combination of post secondary education and/or experience. We value lived experience as well as work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reliable, organized and a team player
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
  • Administration and computer/database skills
  • Criminal Records Clearance
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID 19
  • Knowledge of a language(s) other than English is an asset

JOB DETAILS

  • Salary: $24.31 to start, with progression.
  • Schedule: 6:30am – 10:30am on Saturday mornings
  • Location: Collingwood Neighbourhood House, 5288 Joyce street
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
