This is the story of two decades of transformation in one neighbourhood in Vancouver, where hostility and fear were replaced by an intercultural community; where people of all backgrounds contribute to create a flourishing community. These are the voices of immigrants and their journey from isolation to feeling valued, engaged, and enriched through the Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH). They first approached CNH for its language or childcare programs, and then became involved as volunteers, received training, and went on to find jobs in the city. Now their children, who were once in the childcare programs, are volunteers, contributing to improving communities in Vancouver and beyond. How did this happen? How do strangers become neighbours?
