The Foster Kid Survival Guide

This event discusses themes which may be triggering for some.

Open to all communities, this 1.5 hour presentation and performance is based on local artist HK’s journey as a former child of foster care.

Join HK, also known as Higher Knowledge or Bryant Doradea, for this upcoming workshop in which he shares teachings gained from a lifetime of adversity. Through this workshop, HK promotes resiliency by transforming pain into purpose and weakness into strength.

“I use my many experiences with foster care, street entrenchment, mental illness, homelessness, addiction, gangs, prison and trauma, and have converted them into teachings on how I’ve overcome all of these obstacles and turned them into my strengths in order to live my best life.”

HK has presented to the Provincial Directors Youth Advisory Council for B.C.’s Ministry of Children and Family Development, as well as to Mitzi Dean, B.C. Minister of Family and Children Development, and Deputy Minister Allison Bond. This year, HK also served as MC for Collingwood Days.

Limited space. Please RSVP by emailing higherknowledgemusic@gmail.com.

HK writes: This event is open to all ages and to everyone regardless if you were a foster kid or not. There are definitely topics discussed which may be triggering for some, and some folks may not feel comfortable with children hearing. I will leave it open to everyone individually with what they are or aren’t comfortable with. No worries or offence taken!
