Family & Early Years

Collingwood Neighbourhood House offers a range of recreation programs and activities for all ages. We strive to provide a good balance of activities for people of all ability levels and interests in our neighbourhood.

To sign up for any of the programs below, do one of the following:
– Call CNH at 604-435-0323 (Joyce location) or 604-428-9142 (Annex location)
– Come visit the reception desk at our Joyce location or Annex location

FEES AND MEMBERSHIP

A $2 CNH membership is required for children (0-15) to participate in recreation programs.

AMLAT’SI FAMILY PLACE DROP-IN: A HOUSE TO LEARN & PLAY (Ages 0-6)

An Indigenous-focused program for children from 0-6 years old and their extended family. Program includes child development activities with an Indigenous focus, crafts, story-telling, and lots of play. Light snack included.

We welcome everyone, especially young parents, to join us in a friendly, creative, comfortable and supportive place to socialize and learn about Indigenous knowledge, practices and culture. An Indigenous Family Support Worker attends the program weekly. Families are encouraged and welcome to stay for the Families Branching Out Monday program and dinner. This program is funded by the SMART fund.

COLLINGWOOD FAMILY PLACE (Ages 0-6)

A wonderful welcoming program for parents and caregivers of children newborn to 6 years old. They can meet others while enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation. There are arts and crafts for the children plus story time, circle time, and many fun toys to play with. 
Dates & Times:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 am-12 pm noon
Cost:
 $3.50 drop-in fee or buy a Family Place pass
 
FAMILIES BRANCHING OUT (CAPC program, Ages 0-6)

This program is for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of children from 0-6 years old. The focus is on the health and well-being of young children, their families, and the relationship of families to their community. Children and parents make new friends. Parents share resources, parenting skills, and child-minding and also learn positive ways to support each other. We recognize that parents and children have many talents to offer, so please join us and let us know what you have to share.
 
INDIGENOUS YOUNG PARENTS’ FAMILY CIRCLES

The family sharing circles are facilitated in a way that supports and empowers parents to use traditional and holistic teachings with their families. Parents can feel safe sharing ideas and will learn positive parenting skills and connect more to the community and the resources available to them. Childminding service is available.

MULTICULTURAL FAMILIES NIGHT

Every Monday evening a delicious dinner is cooked by parents and youth and served to Families Branching Out members. The setting is informal and childminding and recreation activities are provided. All parents/caregivers are expected to help with food preparation, clean-up, craft activities, etc. Dinner preparation begins at 3:30 pm; children’s drop-in/childminding program is from 4:45-8:15 pm and supervised gym time is from 7:00-8:00 pm for older siblings; and dinner is served at 6 pm. Activities vary and include informal planning meetings, workshops and guest speakers, and traditional arts and crafts activities.

NOBODY’S PERFECT PARENT EDUCATION & SUPPORT

This program is for parents who have children 5 years old or younger. Parents learn about caring for children and effective parenting skills during several weekly sessions. Groups operate in different languages twice a year and childminding is provided. We announce on the website when we are accepting registrations for a program. Pre-registration is required for this program.

PARENT AND TOT ACTIVITIES* (Ages 2-5)

Games, music and play start us off on a journey of exploration and adventure! Gymnastics games and physical play activities will help children develop social and motor skills. Adult participation is required.
Dates & Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00-11:45 am
Cost: $2.50 drop-in or $25/11 sessions
