Native Berry Trail

The Native Berry Trail located between Joyce and Rupert streets has recently been planted by community garden members to complement a community spirit mural, which also has a First Nations theme. The project fosters conservation through reintroducing native plant species to an area which was

at one time teaming with birds, animals and plant life.

One of the goals of this project is to demonstrate to uses of native plants so that people will also be inspired to harvest and use them. We hope that this place will become vitally important for the community and that people strolling by will stop and enjoy the wide selection of plants. The planting includes salal, wild raspberries, salmonberries, saskatoons, beaked hazelnuts, hardy fuchsia, wild strawberries, black gooseberries, crowberry, native nodding onion, oregon grape, and ground juniper.
