Grow a Row
Share a Row

This initiative builds on the tradition of gardeners sharing their harvest with others. Gardeners commit to grow an extra row or more of food for the community. The produce is distributed to low-income families and individuals who don’t have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Gardeners commit to grow an extra row (or more) of food, which, when harvested, goes to families that are identified through programs at Collingwood Neighbourhood House.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Fresh fruits and vegetables are expensive and it is hard for a family to be able to afford healthy food. Many individuals, though wanting to garden, do not have access to space in order to cut the costs of buying the fresh vegetables. There is more than enough food grown or distributed in this neighbourhood to make sure that no child or family should go hungry. Planting an extra row is just one creative way in which to share food.

HOW CAN I BE PART OF THIS?
1) Choose one (or more) of the vegetables, herbs, and/or fruits.

2) Call Collingwood Neighbourhood House to let them know you are growing food to share, what you are growing, and when it will be ready.

3) Water, weed, and give your plants lots of love!

4) When the food is harvested, bring it in to the Collingwood Neighbourhood House on a Sunday evening or Monday morning. Please call before coming.

5) Your food will be shared with your neighbours through: Families Branching Out – The Breakfast Program – Parents participating in the day care

6) Come participate, help bag some food, and meet other families!
