Food Celebrations

Blackberry Festival

This is a celebration of the Renfrew Ravine’s much loved (and much loathed) Himalayan Blackberry. The “Love ‘em, Hate ‘em Blackberry Party” features blackberry tarts, jam and juice along with crafts, games, music and information. The aim is to create awareness about the

invasive, eco-system damaging nature of these blackberries while also recognizing the tasty benefits of the berries. The festival includes berry picking and a canning and baking event in the days before the party.

Collinwood Days

Each spring neighbours gather to celebrate their community at Collingwood Days. For the last five years the food security institute has helped host this celebration. Food security activities have included blessing ceremonies for the new community gardens, community garden walks, plant sales, fundraisers, info booths and kids planting workshops.

Harvest Fair

This is a annual event connected to the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival. The festival celebrates the full moon, harvest, and the rich multiculturalism that this community has to offer. During the festival neighbours are invited to bring there harvest and display their best and most interesting produce. This includes sunflowers, broad beans, squash and many tomato varieties.
