Community Kitchens

Our community kitchen is a place for participants to cook healthy and nutritious meals together, share knowledge and culinary skills with each other. Participants are taught by community leaders food related skills such as canning, food dehydrating, and cooking on a budget skills.

Here’s what one of our participants had to say about her experience with the community kitchens:

“Rosanna was excited after her first experience at the Community Kitchen, and delighted at having learnt new recipes that demystified vegetables like Okra – which she had seen before but whose name she hadn’t known. She appreciates the “fun, fast and easy” recipes that help bring quick but nutritious meals to families caught up the Vancouver lifestyle. Besides the social aspect to the Community Kitchen that adds the much needed fun to otherwise ‘boring’ kitchen chores, she values the fact that these ideas can be brought home. “You’re teaching your kids how to eat healthy and when they’re eating healthy, they’ll show their friends… and then it spreads the word. It’s the best way to go – word of mouth is the best advertising there is and eating healthy is wonderful.” Okra seems to be a possible addition to the Costantini family menu now, at least in the form of a finger-painting tool, if nothing else!”
