Help for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness.

Renfrew-Collingwood Home and SAFE Committee

Our RC-HAS committee has been a leader in addressing the issues of homelessness, health and safety outside the downtown core. Through the provision of well-managed and targeted services and support we have contributed to the de-stigmatization of people; we have normalized the provision of services to neighbours who are homeless or at risk of homelessness within our residential neighbourhood. The RC-HAS committee is made up of local residents and service providers who either work or live in the area and have an interest in addressing housing, health and safety issues; we welcome new participants. Collingwood Community Policing Centre, CNH, Evergreen Community Health Centre, local churches and local residents are represented on the committee.

The Renfrew-Collingwood Home and SAFE Committee meets bi-monthly. For further information, please contact Ana Mateescu, Coordinator, Homeless Programs at CNH: e-mail or phone 604-435-0323.

Homelessness Action Week (HAW)

In the fall of 2017, Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) took part in the annual Homelessness Action Week. The week’s purpose is to raise public awareness on issues of homelessness and rally local solutions.

Homelessness Action Week is organized by the Greater Vancouver Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness. The Committee is a coalition of community organizations and all levels of government.

CNH’S Homeless program received a grant from the City of Vancouver that was used to organize a film presentation and panel discussion on homelessness. The purpose of the film was to expose and dispel myths around homelessness. The film featured interviews with five local people with lived experience of homelessness and other challenges.
